Posture specialists in each of these areas have tried to alter or control posture. Improved health, vitality, and even longevity have been reported following extensive practice of these techniques.
Yoga, the ballet, and modern strength exercise programs have all defined and taught techniques that stabilize and/or reverse the physical degradation of posture. Other medical disciplines have implemented techniques that deal with the symptoms associated with postural degradation without attempt to control or improve posture.
Most medical treatment today is aimed at the symptoms of postural degradation rather than those forces that cause postural degradation. Failure to recognize the common denominator of posture limits much causative understanding related to the disease process.
