Theta is the difference. Twenty Three years of research with thousands of patients has now defined the beneficial design of all arch supporting, foot controlling, orthotic type devices. Foot function previously understood, at best as an art, is now quantified as a science. Now treatment of the disabling condition know as Morton’s Neuroma can elimiante the CAUSE of the nerve inflammation. Non-Surgical Pain relief. |

Neuromas and Shoes |

Shoes’ definitely play a role in the presentation and development of neuromas, perhaps as much or more than any other condition that presents in the foot. The fact that neuromas are 4 times a common in women suggest that it may be related to shoe use. Generally women first notice the symptoms associated with early neuroma development in shoes that have an elevated heel. The change in mechanics with use of a high heeled shoe place a significant increase in pressure in the metatarsal or ball area of the foot. This increases the inflammation of the intermetatarsal nerve, and created those time when neuroma pain is observed. Generally when the pain becomes severe enough the patient relates the sharp pain of a neuroma to use of these high heels. When they discontinue use of this type of shoe or even decrease the height of the heel it becomes apparent that the neuroma pain does in fact decrease or resolve completely. Eventually the patient finds that the condition progresses to a point where first intermittent then constant neuroma symptoms begin even with disuse of their high heels. At this point common sense or recommendation from their physicians and or shoe salespeople convince them to try wider shoes with more metatarsal padding and support. This change in shoe gear often bring some relief but rarely stops the progression of the pain. Usually by the time treatment with theta-orthotics begins, the patient is wearing shoes that are very wide and a full size bigger than they actually measure. these shoe appear to provide the minimal relief that the get during weight bearing periods. Usually at this point the patient report that the pain is most obvious when they are not wearing shoes and walking or sanding on hard surfaces. Interestingly once Theta-Orthotic treatment begins and control of the foot starts to relieve the pressure and inflammation on the inter-metatarsal nerves, the patient finds that they have to return to a smaller narrower shoe, as optimal function of our orthotics require a snug fitting shoe. It is sometimes difficult to convince patients that smaller shoes will work better, but once the decrease shoe size it becomes obvious that our recommendation are correct. Shoes and neuroma pain often present and interesting story for each individual neuroma patient. |
