Do I even have a neuroma?

I sometimes assume that if a patient uses the term neuroma that they have been diagnosed by one or more physicians. Sometimes they read an article in a popular health journal and with the aid of their family and friends concluded that they Had a neuroma? The diagnosis is made by physical findings and history. X-rays, MRI suggest the presence of this swollen nerve tissue but do little to suggest the best treatment. Pain with pressure in between the 2nd and 3rd, or 3rd and 4th metatarsals. History of burning, sometimes sharp and shooting, with or without numbness to the involved toes. the condition is aggravated by higher heeled shoes and hard flat surfaces. These findings are all diagnostic of Morton Neuroma or "neuroma". Click here for a good outside references to neuroma diagnosis and treatment but come back for lots more on Theta.

Should I start the treatment now?

Yes! By the time you have been diagnosed as having a neuroma it is already well advanced. The problem is progressive in nature and related to the amount of time you spend on your feet. Eventually more than one inter metatarsal nerve may be involved. Lower heeled shoes with decrease activity will buy some time, but time is not really on your side. Begin treatment with as much theta correction as possible for the rest of your life.

Will my neuroma ever go away?  Yes... the pain may subside as you decrease your activity and wear the most supportive cushioned shoe you can find, but the way you walk causes pressure and irritation every step you take. Unless those forces are resolved either you get off your feet or your neuroma gets bigger. The bigger it is the more difficult it is to treat and the more painful it is. Theta-Orthotics can make it go away!

Will relief be fast and complete?

Yes! This varies with each person and depends on how advanced the neuroma is, previous treatment, general activity , and the amount of theta correction being applied. As our foot ages it will be less receptive to treatment, irreparable damage may already be done, and nerve repair may be slow or incomplete. Usually a patient feels some minor changes almost immediately. 2 weeks and they recognize some obvious benefits. 2 months usually provides noticeable improvement in your ability to walk. You may continue to progress gradually for a long time. You may level off prematurely and choose higher levels of Theta Control. As long as a patient can tell me that they have less problems than they did before theta control I know the treatment is of value. The earlier the patients starts treatment the higher the theta correction, the more complete will be the resolution.

Can I wear my regular shoes? Yes!

The shoe has to be able to hold the foot on top of the orthotic, the more secure the better but these orthotics will work in more shoe types than any other foot control advice available today, they even work with certain sandals. As they keep the foot from breaking down, they shorten the length of the foot. As theta correction levels get higher the foot gets smaller and you wear a smaller shoe. The most important requirement of the shoe is that it fit snugly, which interestingly is just the opposite of what often constitutes a good fitting shoe without theta-orthotics

Will theta correction work for me? Yes!

When you walk with theta correction you will learn, because the orthotic teaches you. Once my patients have worn theta-orthotics for about one year they usually know more about foot function than many or all of the professionals they were getting opinions from before.

Get Theta control, an experience for a life time!

Are Theta-Orthotics made out of rubber? Yes!

They are now made out of a urethane rubber that is strong, does not wear out, stays in place, doesn't tear up shoes, retains full elastic memory. The important part of the design is the angle theta that determines the ultimate value of the devise. Second important things is that the material hold theta during weight bearing. Originally our orthotics were made of hard plastic. Now we get the support and forgiveness of solid rubber, with control that works consistently for a long time. I love our new rubber design even though they have been that way for almost 15 years they make my job so much easier. One of my patients was right, the rubber design makes them much more user friendly than any other design available and there are hundreds.

Can my feet get used toTheta-Orthtoics? Yes!

Right or wrong you have walked one way most all of your life, for me to change that with something in your shoe will not feel natural at first and may cause you to hurt in new places as you first begin the treatment. Very quickly for most the pain from your neuroma starts to decrease almost from the time you put your theta-orthotics in your shoes. Within 2 weeks time Theta starts to feel natural and good.

Can neuromas be found with other nerve problems.?

Yes, the same poor way of walking that puts pressure on the inter metatarsal nerve and creates the "Morton's Neuroma" puts pressrure on the Posterior Tibial nerve (Tarsal tunnel Syndrome) or can put pressure on the nerves that travel along the top of your feet. this really complicates things for both the physician and the patient. These nerve irritations also diminish or go away once theta is corrected, they continue to progress when neuromas are removed surgically..

Are neuromas frequently observed with other joint, tendon, or ligament complaints?

Yes the same poor way of walking that causes problems with the nerves can put pressure that causes pain in may other areas of the body including the ankle, knee, hip and back. When you treat the way you walk with theta correction you take pressure off of all these areas. .Neuroma patients are prone to heel spurs, fasciaitis, hammer toes, bunions, tendonitis, as they all relate to the way we walk.

The universe has brought you here, are you ready to accept it's help?

How do you get foot size dimensions?

Arch length and width are determined from impressions of your foot. On the Internet we mail you an impression kit , from this you create the impression of your foot. With the aid of a computer the perfect contours for optimal function are then created.

How much correction do I start with.?

At the moment both on the Internet and in our clinics that decision is made by physicians. They use impressions and your answers to your clinical history to determine the best starting point. When some patients first start the theta program they start with several different levels of theta. This provides optimal correction in a variety of different shoes. The goal is to get enough correction, to get enough help, with out being too difficult to adjust to. You then want that same correction in all shoe types and begin to wonder when you might benefit from more. I usually prescribe a 25 and or 30 degree theta correction for most middle aged relatively healthy patients.

Do I wear them for the rest of my life?

Yes, you get to! Once you have experienced the value in theta correction you are happy to be able to wear them for the rest of your life, because there is less pain and far better function when you do. Some patients forget or temporarily discontinue using theta control only to rapidly realize the benefits and then return to use.
