What correction level is best to start with?

This is perhaps the most important question, as it will determine the ultimate success of the treatment. The correction that we start you with must be high enough to noticeably decrease your symptoms or generate desired benefits. It is just as important however that the correction be low enough that the changes created in the way you walk and stand are tolerable. Realize that even positive changes are not what you are accustomed to. Right or wrong, you have walked one way most all of your life and to change that will require some time.

With that in mind, our licensed physicians review the answers you give to the clinical questions included in your impression kit, and then prescribe a correction level (theta) that will accomplish the above goals. We take into consideration: 1. The appearance of your impressions. We realize that these impressions do not represent a fully weight-bearing picture of your feet, and do, in fact, represent what is wrong with your foot, not how your foot should function. 2. Your previous use of orthotics or other arch support devices. If you have never worn such control devices, you will need to start at lower corrections; if you are accustomed to wearing prescription orthotics, you will need much higher levels of correction to show significant improvement. 3. The history of your specific condition is important as some problems require much more correction to generate noticeable relief. 4. Your age is important as feet are much more flexible and will accept higher correction levels the younger you are. 5. Your activity level is important as the more active you are on your feet , the more gentle the treatment process must be to be acceptable.

Once our physicians review your clinical history and impression kit, we make the prescription that we believe is best for you to start with. Once you receive your order, if we prescribed a correction that is too high or too low, adjustments can and will be made to select a more optimal correction to start with.
