Dear Dr Jarrett, The more of your pages that I would read, the more it all just sounded “to good to be true”. A year and a half ago I called, more to see if it was all a scam. I spoke with a treatment specialist who used Theta-Orthotics. The information she provided instilled confidence and she’s been there with answers throughout my entire treatment. I can feel myself standing straighter with each increase in correction, and I definitely walk more with no pain. No medication, injections, surgery, and NO pain. I don’t intend to ever walk without them again. Now I sound “too good to be true”. In gratitude, Candice Jones 07/02/08 littlestepside@netscape.com

Theta = the angle of the wedge in any foot control device.

Theta relates directly with the ability of any device, custom orthotic, arch supporting / foot controlling, shoe modification or insert, constructed from any material, by any means of fitting or fabrication, to change foot and leg function as we walk, stand and run.

tan(theta) A-C = A-B

The novelty of Theta is not based on a new space age material. It is not based on a particular or new way of fitting the device to the human foot, nor is it a new way of fabrication, but a process that measures the wedge that is actually provided by the device. Theta = Angle of the Wedge

Clinical research with Theta between 1984 and 1990 resulted in the design of a device recorded in the United States Patent office as application number 7,624,550

Theta is measured in a frontal plane section taken where the device lines up with the talo-navicular joint (high point of the arch) of the foot. If this section is divided into 4 parts from inside (medial) to outside (lateral), only the center 50 percent of the curve is used to plot the points that define theta. This explains why the high medial flange design, portion of the wedge outside the definition of theta was determined by most clinicians to be mostly ineffectual.

This angle was not easy to measure because it is taken from a section through the apex of the arch that is shaped like a hyperbolic curve. The points that define where theta is measured A, B, C, had to be defined above before theta could be related to function. Once theta could be measured we began to learn.

  • We learned that every 5 additional degrees of wedge doubles the functional benefits.
  • We learned why most physicians firmly believe that prescription orthotics (average 18 degrees of theta) are better than over the counter prefabricated devices (average 11 degrees of theta).
  • We learned than no other device in the world had more than 23 degrees of correction and only the Alzners can consistently give you that much correction.
  • We learned that optimal correction is at 40 degrees for most patients and that you have to gradually restore optimal function

Treatment with Theta Science

Theta is the physical angle of support applied to the foot during function by any arch support or foot control device. It defines the physical embodiments of any foot control device in terms that relate directly to change in foot function. When Theta is quantified benefits are observed to double with every 5 degrees of angular correction. When theta is quantified it explains why devices with only 10 degrees are frequently inadequate for many, while supports with a wedge of 20 degrees might help some yet be too much for others. Theta makes scientific evaluation possible and redefines the use of orthotics in the treatment of many chronic pain conditions.

Only Theta-Orthotics has seven levels of wedge. Only Theta-Orthotics has up to 40 degrees of wedge. Only Theta-Orthotics can provide a comfortable but supportive level of correction for flat feet and then the additional correction necessary as the arch is gradually restored. Only Theta-Orthotics has sufficient correction to stabilize high arches. No other orthotic device on the market has enough correction to help very/extremely high arched feet. Let us help you get started with the very best treatment you can buy. It’s time to let us help stop the pain. 800-558-4382    8 AM to 8 PM MST 7 days/week
